Amongst the other countries to offer such a system are France, Australia, and Italy. Almost all of the more economically developed countries around the world offer some kind of universal health care system with the exception of the United States of America. In the USA the only way to access medical care is to have medical insurance. Whilst most industrialized countries offer some kind of free medical service to their citizens the structure of this system can vary quite a bit between nations. One example of this is policies regarding private medical care. In the UK it is common practice for doctors to offer private medical services outside of the free public system, but other countries have greater restrictions on such private medical practice.

Universal health care is a very broad term that has many possible applications. However, the key feature is the provision of a free health service to citizens of a nation. Systems of this sort require huge sums of money to run. As such countries usually pay for such a system through national taxes which all citizens pay. In exchange for paying these taxes citizens are then granted free access to the national health system. It is the government’s decision as to who is entitled to health care and what sort of treatments are to be made available on the system. In some systems patients may have to pay for some part of the treatment whilst receiving the rest for free. This is a form of heavily subsidized treatment.

Systems such as these have been proven to work extremely well in a number of countries around the world. Whilst these systems are inevitably very difficult to manage, the benefits largely outweigh the costs. Owing to this fact, many American citizens and politicians have suggested that such a system may be of benefit to the USA. Rising rates of medical insurance in the USA have driven many to see a national health system as a good solution. In recent times medical insurance costs have risen out of reach of the average citizen meaning that many choose to go without insurance every year. The difficulty with this is that if medical treatment does become necessary the costs of such treatment are enough to make a family bankrupt. Opposition to this view states that taxes are levied on those who least need such care.

Cedar Breaks rests on top of the Colorado plateau, at over 10,000 feet in elevation. Millions of years have carved out this giant amphitheater. Due to minerals that have been deposited over time, the cliffs of Cedar Breaks National Monument display an amazing rainbow of warm hues. There are dozens of places for your Adventure in this area. Brian Head, Cedar City, Dixie National Forest, Mammouth Cave, and Duck Creek….and the list just goes on!

The rim of the canyon is over 10,000 feet above sea level, and is forested with islands of Engelmann spruce, sub alpine fir and aspen; separated by broad meadows of brilliant summertime wild flowers. There are lots to see when enjoying Cedar Breaks Tours!

Cedar Breaks resembles a miniature Bryce Canyon. It’s been said that its brilliant colors even surpass Bryce. The Native Americans called Cedar Breaks the “Circle of Painted Cliffs.” Down deep inside the coliseum are stone spires, arches, pinnacles, and intricate canyons and columns, in many different shades of red, yellow and purple. One of the world’s oldest trees, the bristlecone pine, grows here and can be found along the Spectra Point Trail. The Forest that surrounds Cedar Breaks providing wonderful alpine meadows full of ponderosa pines and quaking aspens. During the summer months, the wildflower display is spectacular. The monument is bordered by Dixie National Forest. All services and roads are normally closed during the winter due to heavy snow.

Cedar Breaks National Monument is close to Cedar City, Utah. Driving distances to the Monument are:

•From SLC 251 miles, 404 km

•From Phoenix 419 miles, 675km

Cedar City, Utah is home to SUU, Southern Utah University. It has most of what people would expect for accommodations and shopping requirements during your visit. In addition Brian Head Ski Area is just a few miles from the monument. It offers 4 seasons of activities. It is the highest elevation ski area in Utah. It receives over 400 inches of snow per year. It is a unique ski area because of its red rock views into Cedar Breaks. It is very possible to be in the desert in Las Vegas, Nevada or Saint George, Utah in the morning and ski Brian Head and be back to the desert for dinner! What can I do with this qualification?

Graduates of the National Qualification in Neuromuscular and Physical Therapy can establish private practice to offer treatments to the public to relieve or eliminate soft tissue and muscular pain and injury.

Graduates also work with sporting teams and entertainment troupes.

Successful completion allows graduates to obtain professional indemnity insurance cover to facilitate the treatment of members of the public.

Programme Overview

This qualification, is delivered by Ireland’s College of Complementary Medical Education – CCME, and the National School of Sports Massage – NSSM – with professional accreditation in place ensuring recognition, not only in Ireland, but also throughout the UK and acceptance in most countries worldwide.

Applications are sought from any individual with a committed desire to learn the techniques required to effectively treat pain and injury including professionally qualified persons with knowledge in the areas of basic anatomy and physiology and individuals without a professional qualification as primary anatomy and physiology will be covered on this programme. Ideal applicants include Nurses, Exercise Teachers, Chiropractors, Osteopaths, Physiotherapists, P. E. Teachers, Massage Therapists.

Excellent employment opportunities exist for Neuromuscular and Physical Therapists at home and abroad as the use of these therapies in health care is increasing rapidly. Treatments offered by graduates to qualifying individuals are now covered by Quinn Healthcare (formerly BUPA Ireland) and VIVAS Health. CCME Course Director and tutor, John Sharkey, has been appointed three times as Sports Massage and Neuromuscular Therapist to the Medical Support Team of the Olympic Council of Ireland.

Qualified therapists offer professional services in a variety of locations including Private Practice, Injury Clinics, Sports Complexes, Sporting Teams etc.

This advanced Complementary Medical Educational course is delivered by some of the industry’s most respected professionals. The course content is unique as the syllabus includes multi media based Cadaver studies to advance your knowledge of anatomy and enhance your ability to heal.

Entry Requirements

Applicants need to have a keen interest in the treatment of pain, injury and soft tissue dysfunction. They need to be able to offer commitment to participation on this programme which has been designed to fit in with the busy schedules of working individuals.

There are no formal education requirements for participation on this programme. Individuals with a prior qualification are free to enrol any any of the programmes.

All College of Complementary Medical Education tutors are practicing Neuromuscular and Physical Therapists and they all hold a tutoring qualification which gives them the skills required to deliver the National Qualification in Neuromuscular and Physical Therapy programme to adults of mixed ability.

Other tutors include John Sharkey, Sports Massage and Neuromuscular Therapist for the Olympic Council of Ireland, Leon Chaitow, internationally renowned bodywork lecturer and author and Judith DeLany, author, lecturer and director of the NMT Center in Florida. Leon and Judith both teach on the Higher Diploma in Neuromuscular Therapy programme.

CPD

In addition to following a strict code of ethics, all licensed Neuromuscular and Physical Therapists must be a member of a recognised professional body such as the Association of Neuromuscular Therapists. Membership of this Association allows a therapists patients to benefit from health insurance payments.
